Well this was a pleasant surprise. Nintendo officially announced Nintendo Switch (2) Sports Resort during the recent direct! And as someone who enjoys the Wii/Nintendo Switch Sports series, I think this game will be quite fun!
Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is advertised to include 12 games. 5 of which returning from the OG Switch Sports. Tennis, Volleyball, Bowling, Basketball, and Golf. 7 sports new to this game. Boxing, a return from Wii Sports. Table Tennis, Archery, Power Cruising, and Prop Plane, all returning from Wii Sports Resort. And 2 all new sports. Thumb wrestling and Skateboarding... thumb wrestling... really? Yes. Nintendo is making Thumb Wrestling a sport. Sure. Plus there's a Jump Rope mode you can do as a warmup to each of these sports. The Skateboarding mode is what makes this Switch 2 exclusive since you need the mouse controls for that one. It does look like both the Skateboarding and Prop Plane modes will give you free roam of the new Wuhu Island. Similar looking but also different to the OG from Wii Sports Resort. Hey it still looks cool! While I don't think it was mentioned, I am hoping there will be new sports later down the line in this game like the OG Switch Sports did when they added Golf and Basketball. Perhaps we could get a Baseball and/or Frisbee modes. I am also curious, for the games returning from the OG Switch Sports game, will they feature additional content or modes? Or play the exact same as they did in the original? I do imagine this game will also have an online feature like the original Switch Sports game did too. I know a lot of people seem to bitch about the whole "Sportsmates" or whatever they're called. Honestly? I don't have a problem with them. It's a nice refreshing touch on the Nintendo avatar universe. Yes you can use Mii's if you wish which I think is nice. And hey they're adding back the Prop Plane mode. Maybe we could also see a sub mode for Skydiving too? I do think this game has potential. As much as the original Switch Sports seems to have... quieted down a bit. I hope this reignites some hype. And hey maybe when this game does release, I'll have to return once more to the Nintendo Sports Superduper Speedrun! Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, Wii Sports Club, Nintendo Switch Sports, and Nintendo Switch Sports Resort! Now that is a lot of sports in one stream! As much as Nintendo wants to claim that thumb wrestling is a fucking sport. I guess I can give them credit for at least making it look competitive.
Funny how of all sports they did a fucking demo of thumb wrestling. Your goal is to pin your opponent's thumb down for a certain amount of time. But with wiggle room to escape. You can also level up your thumb by holding it down. Just... obviously be careful and don't get trapped. And the stronger your thumb is, the more of a shot you have of winning. Yes, welcome to the annual Nintendo Switch Sports Resort thumb wrestling championship. XD! I wonder if in the Prop Plane mode, there will be little info bubbles you can collect like you could in the original Wii Sports Resort. And for every 10 you pop, you unlock a new ability. Or how in Table Tennis there could be a return challenge. Maybe a punching bag mode in Boxing. The possibilities really are endless. Given that the sports in the original Switch Sports did have sub modes too. Like Bowling with spin control. I do hope this game provides much more than what we saw on the surface. And hell I guess while I'm at it, I might as well brief on the rest of the direct. Let you know what other games I thought were interesting. I don't think I've played any of the Rhythm Heaven games. But maybe I might have to with the new Rhythm Heaven Groove game releasing. I have indulged in games like Friday Night Funkin and Rhythm Doctor. Plus this game also looks to have an RPG mode where you must use rhythm modes to attack your enemies. So that definitely adds some extra content! I think Ninjala 2's gum mechanic looks pretty goofy. (A good goofy). Using bubble gum to get around and attack. DK Challenge takes you back to the older Donkey Kong games in which you have to complete the tasks it gives you. I'm a little stunned it's a limited time event. Given that this mode uses the Switch Online Classics mode to emulate these games. Hello Kitty Party Land. Yep that's a game. A new Star Fox game is being released. Graphically? It looks quite nice! There wasn't much detailed about the game. But it is only a few weeks away from releasing. Pikuniku 2 looks hilarious. A silly puzzle game with silly mechanics. It does look admittedly interesting. It does have that nice semi-low poly aesthetic. A new Splatoon game is coming out! An all purely single player experience! Looks like our little squid friends will be hunting for loot!
I think it'll be a nice game for those who played Splatoon 2 and 3 for purely their story modes. Oh and yes, of course, Deltarune. Damn Chapter 5 already? I don't think I've gotten past Chapter 1 yet! Damn I have to catch up. Minecraft is coming exclusively to Switch 2 with... admittedly beautiful graphics! Not that I will buy the Switch 2 version given I have the Java edition. And yes, shaders exist. And of course, the direct ended with a very brief teaser of an Ocarina of Time remake. With a Link model that... I don't know I guess caused controversy or something? Not that I'm bitching or anything. Don't really play many Zelda games anyway. I wonder if they'll do a Majora's Mask remake too. And yes, another direct with absolutely no Mario game in sight. Think the closest Mario anything we got was the Donkey Kong Bananza DLC that adds Mario elements into the game. Okay no seriously we are inching toward 10 fucking years without a new 3D Mario game. No I don't count Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury... although I do need to fucking get back to that game. But I mean since the truly newest 3D Mario game. I mean yeah Odyssey is still a ton of fun. But I really do hope we do get a new 3D Mario game announced.
You wanna bet if it'll be over or under 10 years since the Odyssey announcement? XD!
