hey all! sammy here again from the miicord crew! tonight i checked out putt-putt goes to the moon! i am honored i got to participate in v's humongous games block! and i was looking forward to seeing just what wacky adventures putt-putt will go on this time. especially in space!
the first thing i notice in this game is that it looks a lot more dated. i guess the game was released in 1993. and in 1993 a lot of people were still using dos. so that makes sense. putt-putt was invited to the fireworks factory. cars handling fireworks? what could go wrong? mr. firebird shows me his little firework making machine where i am able to add decorations of my choosing and then blast it off and see my decorations from the firework after it exploding! but that wasn't the most exciting part. that came from the mysterious lever with a "do not touch" sign. of course i did touch it. but putt-putt stopped me from actually pulling it. after letting a little butterfly in and it landing on the lever, putt-putt's pet dog goes after the butterfly and pulls down the lever in the process. which puts me on a rocket which goes off into space. and also conveniently, pep has a helmet. yeah i don't know how that works either. also i'm sorry. just a helmet won't help you. you need a full suit. but of course... logic doesn't apply here.
once landing on the moon, i come across a family of little mice from kansas. who also seemed to find themselves stuck on the moon. and a tiny little ramp won't send me home. i play a maze game with pep. which i absolutely destroy. i am the stick queen of mazes! okay fun time over. i need to get home. crossing over a bridge with a caution sign won't help though. after calling for help, i am pulled out by a car named rover. who was left behind by some astronauts. so it's up to me to help bring rover home. rover brings me to a rocket... or... a partial rocket that costs 10 glowing moon crystals to buy off of a double headed alien creature. and i am sorry why are they wearing helmets? they're aliens! anyways, i take the flag which shows what pieces i need. including a steering wheel, rocket fuel, key, and nose cone. of course the rocket itself was already here. or the half of rocket. i head to the cosmic dust diner. after playing a fun bear stormin' arcade minigame, i drink some colored sodas. which temporarily changes the color of putt-putt himself. that's quite the soda if i say so myself.
next is moon city gas. and hey look! i found water on the moon! hell yeah! there's a note by the pump that says if i need rocket fuel, to find a mysterious person at the moon bubble apartments. first floor, apartment c. oh and the mysterious person is robbie radar. so i head off to... not the apartments but the moon city hall. it holds the keys. one of them starting the rocket ship. and the governor of moon city offers the key to good deed doers. so i assume i have to do a good deed to get a key. that deed being getting an alien creature out of the moon goo. i get helped, i return the favor. and of course this alien wasn't wearing a helmet. so now i'm more confused. anyways, after discovering another area in the town, i head over to the apartment building. where it turns out robbie radar wasn't in apartment 1c. or 2b, or 3a... wait he was in 3a. once i find robbie radar, i get the rocket ruel needed for the ship! i then play a brief game of moon basketball with some aliens. fun but another filler area. same with a beauty shop where i can design my own alien. which i admit was definitely humorous to make such a cursed creature! i guess that's how moon city gets its residents.
after heading out, i meet back with rover as i help him acquire the steering wheel. but even my arm is just short to grab it. thankfully i am able to call for pep as he gets the wheel. good boy! i check out the observatory to learn about constellations and planets! not much to do there. but if a kid wanted to learn about that kind of stuff, it was all there in that convenient location! then play some alien tag. which wasn't really difficult. they were so big and i had more than enough time to tag them. after winning the game, i got 5 glowing moon crystals which was half of what i needed to buy the rocket. next, i seem to come across somewhere fancy as this place is gated off. and the way to open the gate is to win a game of simon says. which i also easily champion my way to! i meet with the man on the moon who possesses the nose cone. and to get it, i need to pay him with a picture of himself. which i conveniently got earlier in the game! after giving him the cone, i am able to acquire the cone! and i'm able to get the rocket key too for doing my good deed! that give me everything i needed other than the rocket itself. which i couldn't get just yet until i played one more game of alien tag to get me my full 10 glowing moon crystals.
i pay the 2 headed alien the crystals and the ship is ours! i fill it with fuel, put the cone on, insert the steering wheel, and put the key in the ignition. and away we go as putt-putt and rover land back to earth. of course the rocket is destroyed in the process. but at least we're back home safely! let this be a lesson to putt-putt, do not pull levers guarded by signs saying "do not touch".
