IMSCARED finishes my first Halloween 2025 block double header! Another game I have played already. Is Mr. Wheel scared to give me games I haven't played yet? I play the Steam edition of IMSCARED since the original is like... 10 minutes long. And that's no fun. The Steam edition includes the original game plus a bunch of extra goodies!
So I jump in, get my settings set, read through the intro message, and get into the game. We start with a tutorial area. Getting familiar with the controls, how to pick up and use items like a gate key. I press control to pick up a red flower and uh oh! Shit gets dark. Who am I bringing the flower to? Well maybe that white pixelated face that suddenly took over the controls sign. And off we go! The first area is a small room. It has an exit door, wardrobe, bed, and table with a key under it. I get the key to open the wardrobe and... yep there's blood in it! When I open the wardrobe, a corridor has suddenly opened it. At the end is a ladder I can go down. At the bottom is a hallway with very goopy walls and several doors. Some I can open, some I can not. The first open door I open leads to a small library. There's a hole in the wall I can peek through to see the noose and chair. Behind one of the bookshelves is a rusty key I can use to open one of the doors in the hallway. Another door I can open in this goopy hallway is nothing special. There's some steel bars and on the other side, I can see the white pixelated face slowly backing away. You scared? Well I guess the name of the game is IMSCARED. The next door I can open reveals a resting room with beds and little shelves next to them. But that's about it. At the end of the hallway is a picture of a lovely lady and another door I can open which leads to... a huge pit. Well I ain't jumping down there. And now the lady picture is melting... I guess someone suddenly turned up the heat. I use the rusty key and... well... this corridor is very... rusty. At the end of the corridor is the pulsating heart I need to open the exit door back in the first area. Is it that easy? No. Pixelated White Face rushes at me and my computer crashes. Okay not really. It's a fake BSOD. This game has a folder that places key info in. The first 2 files include attention.txt and HELLO.png. HELLO being a black square and attention telling me more about this pixelated white face whose name is... White Face. I am given a task. Follow the arrows, and that a sound will predict its arrival. It being White Face. When the game ask what its name is, I put in White Face, and it's a game of tag now. In the car park, I must touch all the arrows and avoid White Face. Which is pretty easy to do. Hell I even play with him until he disappears. You easily out run him so it's easy not to be tagged. I find my way to the elevator once I touch all the arrows and ride down it.
At the bottom leads to... a road. A long road. White Face running across my screen spooks me even though I knew it was coming. At the end of the road is a locked gate. And on the other side, on the hard ground is a message in... uh... ketchup reading "One of them is lying". Who is lying? And now I turn around and suddenly there's a trail of ketchup. Following it leads me to a gate key behind a pillar that some poor victim looked to be stuck on. Surrounded by a lot of ketchup. I use the gate key and I am brought back to the goopy hallways. Someone cleaned up the pretty lady picture! So now I am able to get to the exit door in the first room and use the heart!... I don't know how the hell that works. And that's the end of the game! Thanks for reading this blog!... yeah that's a lie this is not game over. The game opens briefly to show me trapped in a cage as White Face comes closer and then the game closes as a YouTube video plays showing me how to play the game. What is the point of this? I have no idea. So back in the game and I seem to be in an... ordinary looking house. Nice and bright! Around the house are numbered doors. I open a small shelf which gives me tongs. An unnumbered door gives me key 1 to open door 1. Looks to be a bedroom. Behind the large shelves is key 8 which can be collected with the tongs. When I collect key 8, the lights go dark. And out the window, I can see White Face. Looking at me. Key number 8 leads me to another room with another bed and more shelves. Nothing in any of the small shelves. But I can still see White Face looking at me. A sudden door has opened up revealing a dining area with a couch, table, chairs, bookshelf, etc. There's a glass door I can open and when I do, White Face runs off to the edge of the balcony. At the other side of the balcony is key 7. When I collect it, the lights come back on. At the bottom of the screen, it reads it needs help, doesn't want to die, and is scared. Is that White Face talking to me? I open door 7 and am sent right to White Face with his chair and noose. White Face slowly gets closer to me but before danger happens, I am sent back to the house where the lights are once again off. And ketchup is all over the place. When I open the glass door and get back to the balcony, I can hear a faint crying noise.
I get key 2 and open door 2. Not before seeing the ketchup seemingly lead to nowhere. Knocking on the wall gives me the achievement "Heaven's Door". Opening door 2 leads me to another rusty room holding key 6. And now the whole house is rusty. I open door 6 and I am sent back to the first room. I open the exit door and follow the white arrows to once again see White Face and his chair and noose. I press E to... unalive myself... is that what the kids say? Unalive? But it doesn't let me. This is where the OG game ended. Now it's time for the new shit. I get the heart and immediately I am brought to the "Do you know my name?" prompt. You can still put in White Face to play tag. If you do there's now a quick exit area. I also get the Peek-a-two achievement when I am back in the goopy hallways. And now I put HER into the name prompt. And now when I head back to the title screen, I press E and I am brought right to the title area. Yeah it's actually a whole building. Isn't that something? A sign reads please be quiet. If you decide to run, you'll be given a warning not to run and be quiet. There's a fork in at the end with 2 paths and 2 doors. The left door is locked so head back and... oh it seems I am not alone as there is a hand poking out that quickly zips off when I get near it. I do show what happens if you do keep running. You get screamed at and the game closes. So i be quiet now as i go through the right door. And then the right door. And then the right door. And then the right door. And then the right door. And then the... who did I just see? A brief figure flashed for a split second before an arrow made with ketchup reveals the wall to my right was fake and I can go through it. The secret room reveals a picture of a figure named... HER. The door to the right is locked. So now what? Well I collect a piano key under the... well... Piano. But the door in the secret area (now open) is still locked. The key actually goes to the left door. Nothing special in it besides a table. chair, rug, bookshelf, and window. So I actually forgot about this and I accidentally found this out here, there was a secret button behind the HER picture which moved the bookshelf in the left room. It reveals HER looking out past the balcony out to the black void. There is a door to the left which is locked. Approaching HER and my computer crashes (not really) again. HER quickly approaches before the game shuts down.
HER is now gone and in her place is the cellar key. That key can be used on the door in the secret room which leads to... well... a cellar! With a rocking pool table! There's a hallway with more HER pictures... all without HER of course. And then there's a room that has 4 digital screens with pool balls and a rope behind a gate. The numbers on the pool balls correlate to how many of those were on the pool table. Once I get the correct numbers down, A sobbing cry can be heard as the rope is accessible. And now those HER pictures have HER... sticking out of them... horrifying. The lights go back and when they come back on, HER is now behind me. I remember this part. I have to quickly get back into the... I don't know... green room? The room with the bookshelf, table, chair, mat, etc. There's an achievement that pops up (not a real one) that says CLOSE HERE. Literally... close here. Close the game here. When I do that, I am now safe as HER is gone and I can use the rope to climb down the balcony. Doing that leads me to a corn maze. Oh yeah I forgot about the game's folder. Oops. XD! Well anyways the ones I need to focus on are is the text document that shows me where a secret path is in the maze and a YouTube video giving me an extra visual of said secret. The only issue? It's a red herring. The end of the secret path in the video is different than the one in game as I am faced with a "You fell for it" sign. Shit. What now? The folder now has an HTML file that shows the real secret path plus a shit load of codes. It takes me a while, despite being given the map. But I do find the real secret and pick up a labyrinth key. To the left is a... figure hanging on a rope from the foot. Interacting with it makes the world go all wonky inverted and I am now trapped with said figure. I can interact with it again to make the world go back to normal as I get the "Thanks for staying" achievement. How do I get past the gate that's across the slide? There's a lock text file in the folder and when I delete that, the gate unlocks. Very clever. Another gate is nearby and this can be unlocked with a mirror code. One of the trillions seen in the HTML file. Going the other way, a statue awaits me saying there's 2 on the left and 2 on the right. These being mirror shards. You'll know this when you find the mirror frame. Throughout the corn maze, there are a few figures placed around which makes the world go all wonky inverted. It'll also get rid of all the gates placed in the maze that only block your path when the world is normal.
When in the inverted world, I find the first mirror shard. Guarded... by HER. Thankfully she disappears after like 3 seconds. I find the 2nd shard in the inverted world. and staying in inverted world I find the 3rd meaning the last one has to be in normal world. And a poor sap has been tied to a tree. Only a matter of time before I know how they wrote "HELP ME" on the statue. I find the last shard and find the mirror. I place down each shard and see the mirror code I need. "VOID TREATMENT". And then the dressed figure comes bolting toward me and suddenly I'm back in normal world. But I got the code I needed. 93934. The gate unlocks and... I'm back in goopy hallways. Though fun little easter egg... I think... if you go back in the maze and look at the screen to the left of it, it tries to display a message to you but it's all fucked up. The only part you can read is where it says "Please, please, please". I can kind of make out what it says. "Welcome to the... This is your last choice. If you... this... r... our ???? will..."... yeah it makes no sense. I go back in the goopy hallways and now in the resting area, in one of the small shelves is a station key. Now who put that there? The station key is used to unlock a small room with an elevator that goes down to a very... blue area. I think someone is behind me... I don't know what it is but I do not like the heavy breathing. There's a door that leads to another maze area as music can be heard in the background getting either louder or quieter. And it's your job now to use your sense of direction to find the direct spot where the music is coming from. The source of the music being a gramophone. Just make sure you avoid HER... she's also in the maze. Oh yeah... there's also a chance a weird ass figure will jump down from a hole above to try to spook you. Touching it doesn't really do anything. Once you find all the gramophones, arrows will suddenly appear telling you where to go. I collect a metro key and very quickly use it as I am then brought to a train station. To the left is a schedule with 3 times for 3 rides. Work, Home, and Truth. A clock is on the right... yes... you actually need to either... wait out for the right time to get the train tickets. Or you can just change the time on your computer. The home ticket turns out to be lucky as I get the "Lucky Tickets" achievement. I do also get the truth ticket. Though you couldn't see it as once I changed the time, for some reason my NDI stream froze so the capture on screen still showed the Date and Time settings.
I get it fixed and board the train. Looks like there's a fine I need to find on my desktop before it's deleted. Thankfully I find it in time! The message is clear... if I want to get rid of White Face... I have to keep playing... I have to keep watching. Back and forth there are buttons I have to push on the train. Each button makes a bump on the bed grow more and more. What is under the sheets? No clue. But eventually the train just... opens and I can go out into the black void... the train was never moving at all. Once again HER can be seen standing... looking into the void. I approach her and... the game crashes. I don't think HER likes me. That's where I ended off. I will probably return to this game... even though I have beaten it through already. It'll still be nice to experience it again given it has been a while.
Whooping HER's ass a 2nd time would also feel satisfying.
