So much for peace.

I head back to the retro side in the Summer Games Done Quick 2025 block and check out Super Metroid! I've dabbled in Metroid games before. Like the one for the NES. But I'd never really do good and like... rage quit after 2 seconds.
Starting with the game, we get a flashback to older times. When Samus saved the galaxy of the Metroids. Leaving only one behind to be studied... which... would be a horrible idea. So Samus has to return to the Space Colony. It was quiet all until I got to the last room. Containing a lone Metroid. Nothing happened for a few seconds... but then fucking Ridley shows up and uh oh it's suddenly boss fight time! Of course I already start playing like shit and that dude quickly drains my health. Not all of it though before I am able to escape off before the whole place detonates and explodes. Back on Planet Zebes, head to the left and begin my adventure. The upper ground graphics definitely give me a Jump King vibe. I mean yes I know this game was released WELL BEFORE but just the... muddy, damp, wet, mossy ground cave like area gave me that vibe. I head down and open a blue door. Just for me to have to go back because of the one block gap path which I can't go through yet because I don't have the morph ball. I head down lower to an area that looks like the original Metroid escape room. In fact I think it is because the next room looks like the original Mother Brain boss fight room. After heading down, I grab the morphing ball. Nice! After being attacked by... light that doesn't really hurt me, I head back and... okay well now the door which would let me leave Mother Brain's room is now closed.
And here is where I start to have fucking PTSD of those Humongous games I played because suddenly I am in a "where the fuck do I go?" situation. Seriously... 12 fucking minutes and I was stuck. I was already going insane. It seemed like no matter what I did, I was just trapped in this small area. Finally after nearly 10 minutes of running in the streets butt naked, I finally realized that there were some dark blocks I could break with my blaster. Just let me run my head into a wall real quick. So I break the blocks and finally I can make progress. I grab some missiles and make my way back. Only to fucking realize that Mother Brain's room has now been populated. Really? Just now? Thankfully the room provides me with... shields essentially to protect me from the laser blasts of the... scythedroids... to which I will call them. That probably isn't and absolutely isn't what they're called. Nor do I feel like looking it up. If you want to know what they're called, look it up yourself okay? Anyways, what I find nice is that even when I get hit, these enemies will drop health refills so it's easy for me to get back to 99 energy. I carefully climb up the OG escape room to find that the overworld too has been infested. Lovely. After discovering there was a save room after using the ship to save, I use some missiles to open a door leading to a... dark... empty hallway. Infested with a few critters of course.
At the end of the hallway is a room containing a device that gives me an expanded minimap. Nice! I head back to the room with that one block narrow path now that i have the morph ball. But once again I have to go back because there are some blocks in my way that I have to destroy with morph ball bombs to which I do not have yet. After wasting time in Brinstar, I find myself in another dark passageway infested by flies. Flies? How so... not scary. I use more missiles to reveal a room that gives me the bombs! Cool cool! Now to head back and... the door becomes... locked? What? I try using a missile to open it but that doesn't work. Turns out... I've been duped... sort of. I mean yes I got the bombs. But the holder wasn't a statue this time. It was live. And this turned into an... honestly unnecessary mini-boss fight. Thankfully it wasn't that hard and after it was over, I got a shit load of energy orbs to collect. So NOW I can actually leave. I use some bombs to open up a secret passageway and after going through the door, I find myself in... fungle land! It's full of mushrooms! Hmm maybe this is a good time for me to get high. I traverse carefully, pick up an energy tank, and I am in another dark corridor. With more scythedroids... or... scytheskins because they look more... lively?
Back in fungle land, I come across these... I don't fucking know... alien eggs? Shooting them seems to make them eject frogs. Yes they do hurt. I checked. I head downwards into... underground forest... there are many missile doors here. So I just open one and hope for the best. The first one I enter leads me to the underground forest cave. What I find fascinating is that the fireflies in this area are the light source so when I eliminate them, it all goes dark. Thankfully I was right next to a door anyway which headed me to getting a missile reload. I will take that! Going back through the door and we have a new family of fireflies. Across the hallway leads to a... very dry dead forest area. Infested with alien swamp critters. After blowing up a wall, and blasting alien drill flies, it leads to a small platformer. There's these pipes where if you stand right by them, it spits out flying alien bugs. I found out you can stand right next to the pipe and just keep blasting the bugs which give off energy orbs too which is nice! Easy energy refill! Once refilled, there seems to be a new green door now that I can't seem to open. Not even with missiles. Looks like I'll have to come back here. After jumping my way around, I stop at a save station. I mean I was getting pretty close to an hour into the stream anyway. Plus I didn't know how much longer the next save pod would be anyway. So better to end now.
In the meantime, I'll be figuring out where the fuck those scythedroids came from.
