So would you call it 3D or 2.5D?

After three and a half fucking years, I return to 3DSEN as part of my Twitch follower incentives. The NES emulator that lets me play games in 3 dimensions! That's right. NES games are finally getting into the modern times!

There was a whole slew of NES games this emulator supported. So I had my good friend Mr. Wheel pick out a handful of games for me to play. Starting with Castlevania II. The game infamously known for being... bad. At least according to AVGN. You start in a town like area. Boo. Give me the action. Thankfully it doesn't take lone before you can start whipping up enemies. But of course the fun is interrupted by the day to night cycle. Yep. Just like the nerd said, this game sucks. Next up was the tried and true classic Pacman NES edition! There wasn't much 3Dness addes to this game. Besides the board protruding out and the power pellets being more spherical. Other than that, I gave the game my 3 minutes! Next up was Zelda II! I had a lot of fun moving the camera around in this game. Well... not in the game itself but with the emulator. Hey it makes the games into 3D. Take advantage of it! Seems like the emulator saves camera angles based on scenes. Which is nice. Given I only give myself 3 minutes per game here, I didn't get very far. Just a few basic day and night battle fields and that was about it. But hey... I played Zelda II in 3D!

Next game I played was Binary Land!... what the fuck is a binary land? Apparently you control these penguins and the idea is that you have to get both of them to the goal. They move opposite of each other. Horizontally. And the halves of the maze they are on are slightly different so you have to figure out how you'll get each penguin out. Which isn't really that hard to be honest. The penguins also have this... spit ability? To wipe away enemies and puddles. I guess it's an alright game based on what I've played of it. Next up was Goonies. Which I've never seen. But based on the video game, I assume it's about a child who beats up mice while picking up bombs and then beating up... I don't know... assassins? Man what a crappy movie. Next up was Journey To Silius. Which definitely also has a rocking soundtrack! I also tried playing this in like a perfect 3rd person mode. But that was a bit more tricky than I thought. Give me the whole screen to see please! It seems to be taking place in the future. Taking down machinery with your blaster gun. And landmines too. I didn't make it far. But at least the soundtrack was good!

Next game was Hogan's Alley. I didn't know what it was at first but after looking at it, I knew what it was. It was a Nintendo original zapper game. Made to look like a carnival attraction. Shoot down the enemies or you fail horribly. I also briefly tried the trick shot mode. Also not realizing the highest score value was on the bottom. Not the top. Oops. Gyromite was next. Now originally I thought this emulator had no 2nd player control settings so I just loaded into the game thinking I could play it all with player 1. How wrong I was. And then I realized there WAS 2nd player control settings. Silly me! The game is still easy to play without ROB by the way. I don't even have a ROB anyway. And all ROB does is press A and B on the 2nd player controller. How very fun. Nuts & Milks was the next NES game... okay seriously what the hell? And it has nothing to do with nuts or milks. You're this... thing collecting fruit while avoiding another thing and then saving your friend thing. It's a basic game. Nothing to rave over about. Metroid was next. Now finally... a good game! That I don't make it far in! But then again I only played the game for 3 minutes! I got the morph ball, listened to annoying ass beeping, died, listened to more beeping, killed the basic spike and bat enemies, died, Metroid over.

Spy Hunter was the final game I played on stream... wait... oh fuck me. This was a game I JUST played on a recent NES-A-Thon stream. And yes, even in 3 dimensions, the game is still hard to all absolute hell. Though towards the end, I realized that you could actually adjust your speed and not go at max mach velocity... oops. Well I know that for next time. Although... there probably won't be a next time.
