I have played Tetris 99 before technically. But it was on my NeedNoMoreMics channel. Never my main channel. Plus given this game was played at SGDQ 2025, I thought it was a good opportunity to give it a play during this block.

But boy I wish I picked a different game. Because what would follow would be nothing but pain and torture. As my first match didn't even last 2 minutes before I got knocked out. Yes I will count bad block placement on my end. Which will be a pattern. Alright. No big deal. I'll do better my next game. Oh how I did not do better. As only a minute into my next match, I was already getting attacked with stacks and stacks of blocks. Murdering me much quicker and putting me in a whopping 85th place finish of 99. Talk about major disappointment. And yes. My next match was much worse. I shit you not not even a minute in I was already attacked with 11 rows of blocks. Like holy shit give me a chance dude! I finished 93rd place. I am seriously going backwards here. At least I did better my next game... still got 79th though... oh boy. In my next match, I did survive a bit longer having very few rows to work with. But I did eventually get knocked out. I finished 52nd... a little better. Still not fantastic. Unfortunately I got bad blocks my next go and dropped back down to 67th place. Oh boy and still 38 minutes to go in the stream. At least I was getting this game out of the way early. I got attacked fast in my next game with loads of stacks coming my way as I dropped further down to 83rd place. But hey... I leveled up! Moral victories right?

As the stream went on there was definitely a pattern of me having horrible block placement. Whether I dropped a piece too fast or I had it spun the wrong way or dropped it in the wrong column and so forth. There was no shortage of that as I got 71st my next game. Can I have just one good game for once? Answer... no. i finished 74th my next game. More attacks gives me a 73rd place finish my next. But on my next game, I actually managed to stay low and hell even made top 50. But then suddenly the game felt like giving me a game over right after that. Like... seriously I reach top 50 and then BOOM THE WHOLE FUCKING TOWER JUST GETS DUMPED ON MY SCREEN. That wasn't very nice. But that was my best game so far with a 44th place finish. I actually got back to back top 50 players. But this next game wasn't so great. Despite the back to back, this time I finished 45th. Yuck. I loathed my horrible block placement my next game and just conceded defeat. Finishing 86th and got 87th my next game with just a bad jumble of blocks. And here is where I just started to play like shit again. I finished 64th my next game followed by a 90th place followed by 57th followed by 81st and followed by 47th after the game just forced me to die that game. I did another concede and finished essentially in dead last place that game. Cool. Things may have been different had I put the line piece down vertically.

Thankfully my stream was coming to an end and I was ready to just put the last match away after building up another bad tower. But somehow I actually managed to shrink this tower and avoided getting 50 trillion attackers. Even in top 50! Huh! Hell, this was the game I actually managed to survive a long ass time on. Unfortunately late in the game the blocks just started going too fast for me. But overall I did manage to finish in 15th place. And you know what? I was damn happy with that. That was the best game I had all so far and I don't think I could top that off. So I decided to stop here while I was happy.

Now if Nintendo could add SBMM to Tetris 99, that'd be great.
