I finished up Pixel Ripped 1989! Which... I wasn't even supposed to play this game after my NES-A-Thon stream. But I already had it fully set up so I was like... fuck it. We're already here. I was already pretty close to finishing the game anyway so it worked out!
So apparently you shove a calculator in a game console and it... works? The handheld display was glitched to shit but the image on the TV appeared just fine! I didn't even know you could hook that thing up to a TV. Let alone wirelessly. I find myself traversing through the final castle, collecting pixels, avoiding spike ceilings and lava floors, dying several times, etc. After that, I face the final boss. Mr. Whatshisface and his dragon and easily defeat them! It's almost like it was too easy.
Shocker. It was too easy. Because he literally comes out of the TV and realities mix again. As we face the real final boss. First phase was pretty easy. Stun the dragon and attack the... Cyblin Lord. Yes I did look up hios name. After that it gets a bit more tricky. Now he sends down enemies. One of them lets you use the portable to attack Mr. Cyblin for a period of time. Just like in the previous stream where I had to aim the portable console to stop the kids from getting abducted. The final phase was definitely the toughest. It took a lot of looking around constantly. And focusing on several things at once. Dot, the possessed teacher the enemies, etc. We attack the teacher with the knight to stun it. Then pop the green bubbles to access the buttons needed to press.
It was tough. But thankfully the enemies give pixels which are like rings to Sonic so it wasn't fully impossible. This time the Cyblin Lord really goes down. But not really. He just scatters off to what would become Pixel Ripped 1995. There is a credits scene extra minigame where I have to collect pieces for a time machine. After that, we get to take a look at Dot's future forms. Which is what we would see in... well... Pixel Ripped 1995!
And that does it for Pixel Ripped 1989! Short game but very fun! There is one more game called Pixel Ripped 1978 which actually came after 89 and 95. So we'll be prequelling again! Imagine reading a whole story but backwards. It might make things just a bit more interesting.
