for my 2nd new game to try out, mr. wheel has given me a classic. a modernized classic in tetris forever. for the most part this is just a compilation of retro tetris games. of course no nintendo ones... specifically nintendo licensed tetris games. you know for a while tetris was nintendo's prized possession. they were so big and everyone was trying to hog at rights for tetris but eventually the big legal guys said... "fuck it. nintendo has the true rights".

while this a compilation, it does also include a mode called tetris time warp. which is... well... tetris. but with a time travel mechanic that essentially takes you to tetris versions of past day. there's several modes to choose from. score attacks, time attacks, line attacks, and so on. i just go with the time warp score attack. yeah for the most part it is indeed tetris. i am... so good? at this game. okay so yeah i wasn't that great. it looks like for every 10 lines you make you get a time warp piece. if you clear even 1 block from this piece, you have 1 of 3 different periods you can travel back to. 1984 electronika 60 era, 1989 game boy era, and 1993 bombliss/super tetris 3 era. yeah i wish it was more too. now not all the time will you travel back. sometimes the piece will become... well i guess i really call it an earthquake piece as it will make every block drop... if there are holes in your board so that it becomes a clean pile and you will score for every line it makes. first time i travelled, it was back to the game boy. now when you travel, there's a challenge you have to complete. like in this case, getting a double. if you do, you get to travel again. here i went to 1993. i had to clear a big bomb but i didn't know how to. when you can't finish a challenge in time, you go back to the main game. when you're in 1984, you have to clear a certain amount of lines.. this version is a big tricky to play. i don't think you can hold a button to quickly move a piece side to side. is that how it really was back in 1984? i don't really know. maybe it said in all the tetris history sections when you first load up the game. you can learn all about... well... the history of tetris! and that's just about all this game is. it is indeed tetris. my first game lasted just under 9 minutes. with a score of over 58 thousand, 67 lines, and up to level 7. decent but i could do better. sonic challenged me to make it to 10 minutes. and that was my quest to set forth on. no i wasn't going to cheat by going as slow as humanly fucking possible. i wanted to earn my victory. and that would definitely take focus. i know the lower i can keep my block stack, the better. those blocks were dropping fast. it almost felt like i was just holding down at all times now. but i was just seconds away from 10 minutes. i hold on just a bit longer... and i do it. i get the job done! total time, 11 minutes and 1 second.

but sonic wasn't satisfied. now he wanted me to go for 100 lines. i felt like it was possible. this run did end on 92 lines. unfortunately i would have to wait just a little bit. over 10 minutes into my next run, 86 lines in but my stack was getting dangerously tall. i tried to do what i could. but i just couldn't hold on any longer and ended up falling. having only gotten 86 lines. but i wouldn't let sonic get into my head. the power of mita's motivation is strong! only 10 minutes into my next run and i was already at 94 lines. i was actually feeling it! i was using rotation spam to an advantage. using that gives me a couple extra seconds to decide where my pieces go. and 10 minutes, 24 seconds in, i made it. 100 lines. i accomplished my goal. and sonic can suck eggs. but i didn't stop there. i kept going. after 15 minutes and 18 seconds, 139 lines, 14 levels, and over 300,000 points, i reached my end. but like i said, i was accomplished. will i ever do that again? i'm not sure. but it was fun having that momentum. thanks again mita for the encouragement and motivation! this is a moment i am very proud of. not only just even for a brief moment, becoming a tetris master...

but also proving that cardboard stick figures are indeed better than creepy hedgehogs.
