Sometimes, I'm not satisfied enough.

I return back with Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition to take on the tough of the tough challenges in these NES games. The easy first try challenges are over. Now it's time to master these 8 bit classics.

Starting with Ridley Riddance in Metroid. Which right off the bat was a hard challenge. You have to jump across the pillars and make it to the boss room and defeat Ridley. But here's the kicker, you cannot fall once in the... poison or whatever it's called. If you do, the game rewinds your progress. And you know me, when that happens... well then I just restart the challenge entirely. And holy shit it definitely feels like it was harder to control Samus than it looks. Hence all the over or under jumps I took. This challenge definitely took me the longest here. The momentum was just so jack. Of course once I made it to Ridley, then it was no problemo. I got a 37.9 time... yeah... 11 minutes to finish an under 40 fucking second challenge. Yikes. I got an A+ rank and then I was like never again. Elevator Blitz was definitely a little easier. A little. Hold left, open a door, activate a bridge, go through another door, go down the elevator. It only took me about a minute to complete it with a 37.5 time. But I knew I could do better. I did save another 4 seconds from my previous time. But I wanted to see how good I could really do. Of course if I could execute it all well and not have an enemy knock me back and trap me or also try to go too fast when trying to activate the bridge or even go too fast trying to get on the damn bridge. Could I have been happy with a 33.31 time? Sure. But I wasn't. Finally after a few painful attempts that could've been mistake free, I finally saved another third of a second to put me at 32.96 and an S rank. Okay now I'm happy. Kid Icarus has one challenge left. The legend challenge "Underworld Wonder". I have to traverse a specific path to find Twinbellows and defeat it. And looking at the demo video? Oh I'm in for a "good" time. I have to go right right, up, up, left, left, left, down, down, left, down, right, right, right, right, right, down, right and get to the boss. It took me nearly 3 minutes to get to the boss. If you think I'm going to restart because the boss is hitting me, you are dead wrong. I just want to get this damn challenge done with because I am not traversing that whole path again. The game may tell me to quit or restart the challenge but I ain't gonna. I'm just going to take my sub 4 B rank time and get the fuck out of there.

Moving on to Super Mario Bros. 2 where I face Mouser in "Destroyer of Dreams"! Blow his ass up with bombs... easier said than done. Well first you have to get to him if you can get past the initial wall and not get stuck there. An Mouser is so unpredictable that it feels like you gotta get lucky with where you throw the bombs. Now I did get a 31.91 A rank time in not too much time. However... this was one of many challenges I knew I could do better. My best trick was to blow up the wall then wait right before it explodes to pick up another bomb and use that to hit Mouser. Then I'd almost recommend throwing the bombs at Mouser from the back. You're almost more likely to hit him if you do it like that. That's what I did and I saved over 10 seconds and got a 21.25 A++ rank time. But... I still wanted to do better. Funnily enough after my 3rd successful run, I actually tied my PB of 21.25. Didn't think that was possible. But then not too much longer I came in super clutch and threw a bomb that was just about to blow and got a very quick 14.85 S time. Now then I can live with! "Cloudtop Climb" seems easy... I mean... just climb up the clouds. Seems easy enough... how little I knew. Sometimes it feels like Peach just doesn't want to jump when I tell her to. Other times I might overjump a cloud and just float and then fall. Or I won't make a full jump and find myself only halfway to a cloud. Now I did eventually get a 17.25 A++ time. But just like with many other challenges, I knew I could do better. Even if it took me like 6 minutes to save 1 and a half seconds. Hey it was worth it for the S rank! Moving on to Ice Climber with "Condor Conqueror". Easy enough. Just climb up the mountain and grab the condor... okay well it's easy on paper. You still need to remember this game has shit physics and momentum. And it definitely shows here. I almost had it about 90 seconds into playing the challenge but somehow I didn't grab the condor. Welp we try again. Only a few minutes later, I do grab the condor and secure a 45.68 A++ rank time. But... it was slow and sloppy... and I accepted the time anyway and moved on to Super Mario Bros. 3 where I started with "Beat the Heat". A little more easier challenge of the bunch. Just running my ass through a... level in World 2. Don't know which. But basically I have to outlast the angry sun and not get trapped in the fucking tornado. And also make sure I grab the card at the end. And not run into the first flying koopa. If I can do all that, then I can secure a 20.13 S rank time!

Following that is "Curtain Call: Morton". Take his ass down and get the wand which I did my first try with an even 10 seconds S rank time! That was easy. Let's try something harder with "Neigh Slayer" in Zelda 2. At least the objective is self-explanatory. Take down Mazura by slashing his head. The execution isn't as easy. I found myself getting knocked back by it a lot yet I still secured an 18.81 A++ time. I wanted to do better. After slashing this horsehead for a bit longer, I did secure a 13.55 S rank time. S for..... super cool now we move on! "Rebonack Attack" is next. Essentially I have to knock this knight off its horse and then attack the knight itself. I attack the horse by downward thrusting... with my sword. Also for some reason every time I restart I have to wait like 1 or 2 seconds once I get in the boss room. And after I knock the knight off, then it feels like a guessing and luck game if I attack the knight because of its shield. I did originally get a 28.10 A+ time. Pretty good. But just like other challenges I wanted a better time. But every time I restarted, I either couldn't even hit the damn horse or the knight was just blocking all my attacks. So I was like... you know what? Fuck it. My time is good enough and I think it's time to put away the controller. I got through a good chunk of challenges this go around. Still have a lot left to complete. But I am one step closer to becoming the NES champion! And when I do, I... well...

I don't know... get fucking bragging rights or something?
